Mike Hartner Due to the beauty and accessibility of the internet, it's probably close to 5:1. % hrs spent seriously writing to each hour of research. Most of my research is done in point form. So, in I, James when I wanted to write about the spices that Rosalind used... I researched the trade routes of the day and found the Spice Islands ( Indonesia) and China in the trade routes.
Mike Hartner The best thing about writing is being able to put the stories and people in my mind on paper.
Second best thing, though, is listening to the readers, and seeing and hearing their reviews and comments about the book.
Mike Hartner Different books give different inspiration. I once wrote a series called Harrtners in America. The inspiration for that series came from looking at the various genealogical eras, and finding things that would inspire others.

Currently I am writing The Eternity Series. Inspiration for the series comes from listening to the characters. Timing is after all are asleep, and the inspiration comes when I desperately need to relax.

For this series, the book ideas are very easy for me. I just keep following the previous book.
Mike Hartner Write what you want to. Write what you know. You are the one who knows your story. And that story will come from you and you alone.
Mike Hartner To me, writer's block means there is something more in the section that I must concentrate on. Some times it's research. Other times it's wording. So, I concentrate one that particular aspect, and then move on once the block releases.
