congratulations on your novel ... regarding self-publishing, I use Kindle Publishing (Amazon) and I think it is the quickest, easiest and least expensive option ... however, marketing your book is a whole different matter and I really have no advice to give on that aspect of the process ...

15th c Spain was the setting for my first novel, THE HERETIC, but I have not done any research in that area since then.

I would be pleased to respond to any questions, but most of my novels are self-published.

sorry, but I don't know anything about Carinhall ... Goering played a very minor role in my novels so I never did much research about him

I don't know anything about Carinhall either. But did I ever tell you that in 1953, when I was 13 and rode the same street car to high school (in Munich) as Goering's daughter (who was 14 and one class ahead of me), she made a fashion show of her high school attendance, at a time when most people still lived on the very basics and most kids wore ill-fitting hand-me-downs from older siblings? (I wore blouses my mother had fabricated from my father's worn-out shirts and tight [unfashionable] skirts my mother had been able to make from my father's worn-out trousers.)

Hi Lilo, I was born in Munich in 1955 and lived there for 5 years. My parents were both students and very poor. I know all about the hand me downs.

sorry but I did not include any research on Bormann ... however, there are 55 references to Bormann in Richard Evans, The Third Reich at War

(view spoiler)[? Recent access to Hanfstaengl's archive in Munich, shows that much of his 'Memoir' is a cover-up . He worked for British agents (not MI5 or MI6) and the Americans/Canadians for many years.

a good answer would require a book ... for any of us

Haven't read it ... but I'll look into it. Thanks.

I'm surprised to hear that, since I am aware of many histories of the Nazi era which are quite available in Germany. Germany has made, and continues to make, significant efforts to confront the horror of its Nazi past.
Lewis M. Weinstein
Thanks. I'll take a look.

In the sequel to A FLOOD OF EVIL, I am currently creating a version of what it was like to try to oppose Hitler in the mid to late 1930s, so I am "traveling" there through historical accounts and memoirs. It is my objective to take my readers there, to feel the danger and frustration through my characters. To be there myself would be incredible, but I would still look to the accounts of other people, since every situation was complex and chaotic, and no single account can possibly tell the whole story.

I have not come close to completing my research on the Nuremberg Trials, and I have no conclusion on the point you raise. What do you think?

Sorry but no. The Heretic was published in 2000 and I have moved on to other books and periods of history.

Thanks for your recommendation. It's on my list. I am, however, still (in the sequel to A FLOOD OF EVIL) working on my characters' lives in 1937, so I have a ways to go to get to what Irving wrote about.

I am not 100% sure if this invalidates Irving's earlier books, but I would not trust a historian who has played down the Holocaust in an inexcusable way with ANYTHING. Therefore, I personally would not waste any of my precious time on any of Irving's books, no matter when they were written.
