Read tons of "good" books. Of course "good" is relative. But if you either love the book or despise it, then you haven't wasted your time. My rule of thumb is that for approximately every 100 books I read, which include fiction and non-fiction, I can write one.

I would take a break, work on puzzles or other games. Maybe go to the gym or even hike on a nearby trail. I wouldn't sit in front of the desk and force some idea out of my head.
