I know you're a busy guy with many irons in the fire, but is there another book in the pipeline, Michael? When can we look forward to it?
Michael Perry Whoops just found all these old Goodreads questions. I have a sequel to the Scavenger out next year (if things stay on schedule) also recording audiobook versions of some of my older work, and working on another book project I hope to announce soon. And always writing columns and essays and songs and whatnot.

In "The Scavengers," there was a book that Ford Falcon mentioned reading although I can't remember the name of it. It was something like a boyscout handbook that showed her how to do all kinds of cool things. My question is, what was the name of this book, and is it real or based off of a real book?
Michael Perry It was a real book: The American Boy's Handy Book. You can find copies of it pretty easily.

Michael Perry, who was your favorite character in The Scavengers? What was your favorite part? How did you get the idea for such a tangled web of a story? I loved your book the Scavengers.
Michael Perry Hey Del thank you. I enjoy each of the characters for different reasons, although my favorite part is how Maggie uses her intelligence and wicked sense of humor as her best weapon. I had a terrible time with the plot and had to lay out pieces of paper all over the floor to get it done.

You're a writer, but judging by what you're sharing here on Goodreads, you're not much of a reader. I find that hard to believe, Michael. Writers read. C'mon, share. What's on the nightstand?
Michael Perry I read stacks of books and articles, tough to keep up posting them and still get all my other work/dad/husband stuff done. Let's see right now "How to Write and Autobiographical Novel" by Alexander Chee, "Christine" by Stephen King (because I've never read him other than his writing book), and also the prose and poetry of Hanif Abdurraqib.

I bought your book, Scavengers, for our 8-12 year olds at the public library. Question, On the back cover it describes Hatchet as a " demented rooster-cum-secret-weapon. Was it supposed to say cum or was a 's" left off of scum?? Just checking.
Michael Perry Sorry, just discovered these old GoodReads questions. In this case we're talkin' the Latin "cum" as in graduating summa cum laude.

Is there a Klute Sorenson in New Auburn? I'm leading the discussion of The Jesus Cow for my Middleton WI book club this month. Because I worked for many years for the Assemblywoman for New Auburn, I know the area well -- and love it -- and would hate to see development come to the area. Our book club also read Population: 485 and gave it a very high rating.
