Several witnesses mentioned this. There are theories as to what caused it, so you know the tale went viral. I know, EW!

How I miss Margaret! She was one of those friends with whom you laugh until you're crying.
You've read my books, of course? she asks with a teasing grin.
I highly recommend Sharan Newman's Catherine LeVendeur series!

Great questions, Sally! Years ago on a whirlwind month-long trip to England in the midst of my graduate study, I arrived in York and experienced an uncanny connection. I felt as if I were coming home. More so than any other city or town on that visit, York caught my heart. Once home, I could not stop thinking about it. So began a love affair with York; there's enormous potential for historical fiction in this one city--archbishops, wool merchants, royal visitors, the great abbeys in Yorkshire--and, in my new series, the drama of the early years of Henry IV's reign and York's shifting role in his kingship. And I love returning there both in body and in spirit. As for Owen being Welsh, I wanted a protagonist who wasn't native to York, a bit of an outsider. And Owen Archer was there. Perfect for the role. When I went to Wales to add depth to his character, I found a wealth of material. It's a magical country.

I'm not certain about Margaret Kerr. If publication of the second two books in the US generates interest (they were never published here), it's possible. Stay tuned, and thank you for asking about Maggie. She holds a special place in my heart.

If you liked Maggie, I think you'll find a kindred spirit in my new sleuth, Kate Clifford--though she's in York, not Scotland. Thanks for your note--I

I actually loved the Margaret Kerr series, mainly because the degree of difficulty for the time period impressed me. Finding ways to give agency to a woman in the lated medieval period necessitates a bit of a stretch--certainly a woman "out of her time," like most important women throughout history are deemed. Also, the necessity to connect to men to access power tends to bog down adventures with the baggage of romance. I am terribly impressed that the author didn't let the problems stop her from writing books about strong and interesting women in this early modern/late medieval period. Looking forward to more. Candace Robb is one of my favorite authors, especially as her modern historical scholarship is such a pleasure to find in adventure novels!

I’m just in the midst of hunting down the 1st book in this series. I joined a historical mystery book club that meets once a month in an old English style pub. Even if I wind up simply fiddling with the existing words, I've reconnected with the characters, and in no time they'll be teasing me back to work.
