I really find my inspiration in every day life. People ask me all the time about where I get my ideas from. They come to me either in conversations with other people, while I'm thinking (usually in the shower or the car!) and from things that I read about or see in other forms of art. I always keep a notebook with me (in my bag, on my nightstand and at my desk) for when ideas come to me.

I'm working on a proposal for a new book which is a coming of age memoir of sorts. I'm also working on several different personal essays and I'm spending time teaching others about essay writing and journaling.

Stick with it! Even if you can't find the time to write as much as you'd like to, or you get stuck on something. You will eventually get unstuck and you will eventually find the time. Don't give up - ever!

I love being able to take the thoughts floating around in my head and get them on paper. I love being able to express things on paper that I cannot express in other ways. I love telling stories, and I really love when other people connect to my stories. That is probably the most rewarding part of being a writer for me.

I usually step away from my computer and do something else (if possible) even for just a few minutes. Sometimes that means getting a cup of coffee or taking a little walk. Other times I stay at my computer and go back to work on something else such as an old article of essay or just answering emails. A change of scenery does a lot of good - for me at least!
