Alice Kay My advice for aspiring writers is to finish what you start. With piles of partial manuscripts sitting on my desk begging to be finished, I can say this from experience.

If you don't want to face years of editing, finish your manuscript as completely as you can and have reading partners take a look. These can be critique partners, hired editors, and beta readers, depending on what stage the manuscript is at, raw or polished, and whoever you are most comfortable with. Their feedback will inspire you to get it done so you can move on to the next project.
Alice Kay Writing new material on a fresh, empty page is never a problem for me. I love beginnings and have enough 'starts' to fill a book all on its own.

Writer's block comes in when I've written myself into a corner and don't know which way to go. When that happens, I stop writing and work on summarizing each scene or chapter. After letting it sink in for a day or two what I have and what I need, I can get through the block and keep going.
Alice Kay I visited Whidbey Island with my golden retrievers. The cliffs can be steep and trying to keep up with two excited dogs can be a chore. Beautiful, fun, and worth it - but challenging. It was a terrific setting to show a character's personality as she dealt with a problem.
