Writer's block. I do have bouts where my ideas go haywire. I am a big follower of astrology and I find that during the Mercury Retrograde (don't laugh, I was following this stuff in the 80s), I can't get any clear writing done. So I do a lot of meditation and re-writes. Other than that, I have never really had a creativity block (as of yet...). I try my best to do as many things as possible to keep my creativity flowing. I write daily. I watch movies and listen to music that moves me. I think a writer's block comes when we lose our nerve as writers. In my case, I can't lose my nerve. I have too much to say. And if you write books about witchcraft or dark fiction, as Stephen King says, you need to give up any illusions of participating in "polite society." It is when I think I somehow need to fit in with the crowd that I can sense my creativity shrinking away.

If I could go to any fictional book world, I would probably find myself in "Briar Blackwood's Grimmest of Fairytales'" setting --The Realms. Or, if I could not go to a world of my own making, I'd maybe choose the world/setting of Ursula Le Guin's "Earthsea" books. What would I do there? I'd go to the wizard school, of course. Right?

This summer I'm reading Stephen King's "The Institute," also "Night Circus."

(view spoiler)[Hey there. There are a few spoilers in this message. Not big ones, because those I save up and scatter throughout the story. But if you'd rather not know anything about the book, then skip this response! I am supposing that this question is about my new psychological/paranormal thriller, "One Crooked Thing," which came out in early June 2020. In 2014, when I was researching the Llewellyn release, "Wicca: Another Year and A Day," I had to look more deeply into Wicca's ties with ceremonial magic. I had books strewn everywhere ranging from, "The Book of Abramelin," to "The Complete Golden Dawn System of Magic." From these and other sources, a story idea began to form in phases. I knew I wanted to write a story that took place in Los Angeles in the late 40s. And, I knew I wanted to write something with a magical theme, but dark. A pact with the devil--old school--came to mind. I tried a few different versions of a story that included these elements, but the going was slow and not very inspired. (Maybe sometime I'll post one of these early versions of the novel, so you can see the original direction). It actually took about a year before I had a "fit" of inspiration that ended up being a hook that intrigued me so much that I had to explore it. It happened one evening, when I was walking my dog, Barley. I suddenly got a flash about the Faust myth. I thought it might be interesting to write a story about this myth, but from his wife's perspective. Once I had this insight and inspiration, the book took on its own life and many different time periods and settings began to fit into the storyline. (hide spoiler)]
