The best thing about being a writer, for me, is forming a relationship with your characters. As you write, you get to know these fictional people like they're your actual friends. Maybe that's a sign of undiagnosed multiple personality disorder...But I think it's quite fun.

Rather than a "summer reading list," I always make a Spooky Season list. This year, I'll be reading Shirley Jackson's The Birds Nest, Bram Stoker's Dracula, and I'll probably reread Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book.
