P.D. Haggerty This is one of the hardest questions. I can't wait to be inspired or I'd get nowhere. I have to sit down and try to force words out onto the page. This results in anywhere from several pages to adding a comma (and then taking it out). I treat writing like one of those tasks that adults have to do, whether they're in the mood or not. But going back and re-reading scenes I did a few days or weeks ago reminds me why it's worth it.
P.D. Haggerty The only thing that works for me is to just move to a different scene, or even a different book. Even that doesn't always work. Being independent means I have to do everything myself and fight tooth and nail just to get people to know I exist ... and more importantly, my books exist. On the other hand, I don't have an agent reminding me about the deadline in the contract.
P.D. Haggerty I have two novels in my hopper. My main focus is the prequel to Road Kill, titled The Cat Who Came in From the Cold. A sequel to them both, titled The International Criminal Conspiracy is about half done, but I'm trying to ignore its traitorous whispers until I finish the prequel.
P.D. Haggerty Truthfully, most of my ideas come from dreams. The final result is totally different because ... my dreams almost never make any sense. But Emily's power in Road Kill and Thomas' awakening in Twice Told Thomas were direct from dreams and formed the core of their respective stories.
