I deal with writer's block through rigid routine. When on an active project, I always plan a chapter through the week, write on Saturdays and do a first time rough edit on Sundays. While this means there's no exciting bursts of inspiration where I'm writing an insane amount over two days, the consistency means that the project, no matter the length, WILL get done.

Naraxa and the Dead Florist takes inspiration from a few noteworthy parricides, namely Joel Guy Junior, Grant Amato, and Chandler Halderson. The common thread for all of these were young men who simultaneously relied upon their parents while also resenting them for one reason or another.
Some of the details of these cases will give much of the book away, but yes. There were numerous real life crimes that inspired this particular mystery.
