I wake up suddenly, drenched in sweat, enveloped in total darkness and with no idea of where I am. The air is a thick stench that is sickening, suffocating, and I am gripped with the knowledge that I must get out of there, now, but it is then that I discover that my legs are gone.

Madison came from a title my co-author, Susan Permuy, had carried around for years after owning and loving the real Madison. When we met, she liked my doodling and explained that she had the title for a children's book and that's all. I heard Madison, The Tale of a Corgi with No Tail - and that was it. The beginning of a beautiful friendship.

A love of reading. Language. Expression. Cartooning. I wrote/drew comic books for my grandparents when I was 4 or 5 with beginning, middle and end. I love imagination - was raised on the Oz books. Figment is my favorite Disney character.

More Madison adventures. Recently finished Madison Meets the Moon and now waiting to see what she gets involved with next. I've come to really love her.

Because my latest focus has been children's books, I enjoy exploring what else is out there. I discovered The Kissing Hand, a story intended to help kids prepare for that first day of Kindergarten - wonderful! And because art and illustration is equally important to me, I'm also checking out comic series like The Umbrella Academy. There's a big world out there.

I have a younger sister who was adopted and I remember her having musings about who her biological family may be. One of my favorites was when she imagined Joan Collins being her biological mom. Imagine if that were true . . .
