Angus Curran When you meet someone who has read your book and they say that they think about your main character from time to time and how they might handle certain situation. Or they wonder what your main character is having for lunch. Makes my heart happy.
Angus Curran I feel that good writing or story telling cannot be rushed. I've had little luck just staring at the keyboard or out the window. Sometimes I just need to get the guitar out and wham on it for a while. But usually I just need to let things marinate in my subconscious for a day or three and out pops an awesome idea(s). This is just how my brain works. When I was an engineer I had a problem stewing for months, then one morning driving to work BAM I had the answer. And that answer impacted the whole PC design process. Sometimes you must be patient.
Angus Curran Go for it. You're writing as much for your self as for the readers. The chances of glory or fame are miniscule, do your best and just let it go.
Angus Curran My second story involving my character Anh Santos, it's a darker grittier story that smashes history+mystery+adventure+soft Scifi together with a dash of thriller. Demon Treasure on Gold Mountain is in the final steps before copyright - ISBN - publish.
Angus Curran Well first you have to have a story or an idea that really interests you. Even then you need to find out what works for you; a very structured approach, or much looser informal approach. I use a little of each but my feeling is sometimes you need to sit back and just contemplate or ruminate on some ideas. No pressure... as I say "You can't rush crazy, crazy has its own schedule."
Angus Curran As I learned more about how Chinese immigrants were treated in the Old West, which was way worse than I thought, I saw the possibility for a story. I saw it also as a way to share that with others wrapped in a story.
