Jamie Chin I try to avoid it as I tend to only write when I feel inspired. That's easier to do with children's books as they tend to be short. And that's why I don't write 400 page novels...I would likely never finish it!
Jamie Chin Progress - not perfection! Just start. Write ideas or paragraphs down as they come to you. I keep a ton of half started books in the Notes section of my phone. Some of them never go anywhere, but some do!
Jamie Chin I'm SO excited about a book I have in the works. It's a different target audience than my first two picture books. It's about a mother's sadness (and excitement) over her child getting ready to leave the nest. It will make a wonderful gift for high school and college graduations.
Jamie Chin Honestly...seeing your reviews. Knowing that your book has connected with your audience in a positive way is such an amazing reward!
Jamie Chin As a mental health therapist, I see a ton of teenagers with anxiety. Anxiety is almost always future oriented - we worry about things that often never happen. We are robbed of time and energy that could be spent working towards joy, rather than fear. Children are becoming more anxious at even younger ages now. Look for the Magic was written to give young children the message to slow down and appreciate what's right in front of us. Being mindful, and in the present, is the antidote to anxiety. If we can message it as a core value in our children, perhaps we can turn the tide on anxiousness.
