hi Jade! I just finished "Chlorine" and I loved it so much, I hope you plan on writing more novels because I will snatch them right up, lol. I was curious about the letters from Cathy. The narrative voice is so similar to the voice of Ren, I thought that maybe the letters weren't real, but were just Ren talking to herself? I'd be so curious to know what your intentions were with these letters! Thank you! :3
Jade Song Thank you so much!! You are very kind. I do have another novel coming out March 2026 :) The letters are intended to add clarity (or mystery, depending on how you view the ending) to Ren's fate. I also wanted to show the complexities around coming-of-age: Cathy's voice is in contrast with Ren's "monstrous" voice. Cathy's letters are full of aching love and unresolved yearning, while Ren's storytelling is aggressive and angry—but both are that of a teenage girl's.
