If I am really struggling I open a new document, set a timer for ten minutes and just write any words that come in my head until the timer stops.
I go for a walk, sit quietly, have a rant! Then I do the ten minute thing again.

Keep going. Don't worry about what you write. Tell the story, improving sentences and deeper characters comes with the later drafts. Try to write everyday. Don't worry about what you have written till you feel the story is told....but what do I know. I have a method, that method keeps changing. As long as you tell the story you want and the way you want I don't think anything is wrong.

Sometimes just an image, a place, or a scene come to mind. I usually jot down a few ideas. Some take off and fly and some just linger on my laptop.
Generally, I feel I have to write. The stories seem to simmer till they are written down. So I have a lot of bits, ideas, just waiting for a little more.

Shouting Down the Darkness was originally a short story written by a friend, she asked me to supply an ending. I took the idea and ran with it. Initially it was supposed to be about consequences, and was called early summer. I didn't like the first version, neither did my friend. So I rewrote and created a whole new story.
