The idea for Secrets of a River Swimmer came from my own experience of swimming icy cold Scottish rivers alongside huge salmon. I used to go river swimming there every few weeks even when it was snowing! And I always emerged from the river feeling euphoric, alive, healed, and with funny stories to tell.

I let inspiration arrive when it's good and ready to. I find ideas just pop into my head on occasion and I've learnt to write them down as soon as that happens. I've lost a few ideas in the past by not doing that!

I'd join Huckleberry Finn and Jim at the early stages of their river journey. I'd lie back on the raft and talk with them about life on either side of the river. I'd have enjoyed living a slow life with beautiful characters who spoke inspiring words from Mark Twain's mind...
