Writing is difficult enough, especially when you have a demanding full-time job and a young family! However, I have found myself (very casually) researching the lesser known people and places that had an outsized impact on the Civil War.

While doing ancestry research a few years ago, I discovered that my great-great-great grandfather, who I knew had served in the Civil War, had two brothers who also did. I slowly learned more about them over time, but then didn't do much else with it. When I moved to Virginia, I started visiting battlefields and was motivated to learn about them again--and ultimately found out they were in a regiment with a very unique path. I realized their "story arc" would allow me to combine my military and educational backgrounds to write something that would honor men from my home, and tell an interesting story!
