Alan Bayles The only advice I can offer is if you have an idea and want to write, just do it. I spent years thinking I wasn't good enough to write a book, that I needed to be highly educated to write a story.

Don't let anybody put you off. If you have an idea of a story, just go ahead and write. Hopefully it grow into something.

Self-doubt can be a writers biggest hurdle, don't let it control you like it did to me. So long as you have confidence in yourself and what you are writing, you have already made it past the first hurdle.
Alan Bayles As well as trying to promote my new novel - Mirror Wars: Double Jeopardy. I have started to lay the foundations of my next novel, the second part to Mirror Wars.
Alan Bayles I because ill and found myself unable to work. One day I was sitting feeling sorry for myself, when I basically give myself a kick up the backside - that I wasn't going to feel sorry for myself any longer that if I am going to have time on my hands, I might as well do something productive.

So I decided to sit down and write that book I had been putting off for so long. I did a bit of research online on steps to take and watched a couple of videos on YouTube of writers who had made some helpful tutorials.
Alan Bayles I based the idea on my childhood fear of mirrors. Growing up as a child I was quite scared of the dark and mirrors. I could not have a mirror in my bedroom, as I thought something was watching me and creeping out of it and stalking me in the darkness while I slept. There was also an old abandoned isolation hospital in the village I lived in growing up, which other children (myself included) found quite intimidating and scary.

As I grew older I always had the idea of writing a story incorporating my childhood fear of mirrors and using that old abandoned isolation hospital. It has been constantly in the back of my mind for over thirty years.

I also love the idea of alternate worlds and once I sat down properly and thought about it, I realised I possibly had the makings of a good science fiction thriller.
