Rick Waugh My father passed away very suddenly at the age of 59, when I was 19. The official explanation given then was that blood clot from a minor operation hit his heart. But mother told me later that she had not found out for sure; I don’t believe a proper autopsy was done. Now, none of us suspect anything, but there’s obviously some room in there to base a mystery plot.
Rick Waugh It's not something I've run into. I just write, as I've noted in my other answers. By writing, and reviewing what I write, I come up with more ideas, better ideas, for improving what I'm doing.
Rick Waugh I've always loved to create things. It fills me with joy.
Rick Waugh Butt in the seat, write. If you're having issues seeing where you're going, just plow ahead. You can produce a draft, it may not be great, but you'll have something to start with.
Rick Waugh I don't believe in that kind of inspiration. I sit down and I do it. I do enjoy it, but it's like making music; you have to put in the time, if you want to get anything done. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad, but it's much easier to fix something you already have, then try to produce something perfect the first time.
Rick Waugh The Eternal Muse has been rattling around inside my head for years. I first thought about it when I was in my 20s. As a musician and a fantasy writer, I thought it would be great to combine those two things somehow, and write about a minstrel, and then compose and record the songs he sang. I then combined that with a bit of my love of history; at one time, centuries ago, the Catholic Church restricted how complex music could be. I'm not sure why, but they did; this pretty much applied to church music only, but that's what most music was composed for. So, I thought, what if there was another reason, that music was magic somehow. Then I thought about how we have such an emotional reaction to art, and the entire magic system popped into my head. And it went from there....
