Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?
R.L.K. Eastabrooks While researching an academic paper for my Master's degree in Cambridge, MA, I came across written accounts of the ritual known as sati, wherein a widow burns to death on the funeral pyre of her husband. Although it is an illegal practice in India, satis do still take place, including the infamous sati death of Roop Kanwar in 1987. I was deeply moved by Roop's tragic story, and went to India where I visited the actual site of her murder.
