Ruth Finnegan My academic ethnography on taxi drivers’ lives. It’s a fascinating and important, under-researched, subject which I’m enthusiastic about, but I’m afraid the half-finished full manuscript ( I HAVE published a quick preview) has been hanging around for some time ( um,,does that ring any bells with anyone else?), it’s much harder to research and write up than my creative works which just arrive in unsought dreams. But I’m glad to say that I’m now getting on with it. To tell the truth I keep on being a distracted by my screenplays which to my utter surprise I’m now not only getting into but winning prizes for; what’s a feature film is currently being produced in Nigeria ( ‘No biscuits in heaven’ - who can deduce first why I called it that?)lDid you know - this was new to me - that Nigeria is the second of the three top filmmaking countries in the world: first India, then Nigeria (‘Nollywood), third US. I live and learn

Regards dear fellow readers and writers, Ruth (www.ruthhfinnegan.com)
Ruth Finnegan well really - sorry not to be more sophisticated - just that by now I love it!
Ruth Finnegan Why am I so convinced that my dreams tell me of - somehow ARE - a reality that I don’t touch in my every day life!> I have to confess that my way of trying to deal with this mystery is to write my fantasy novels like ‘The black inked Pearl’.

I guess others of you have a similar mystery to face up to - do you also deal with it by creative writing? Or how?
Ruth Finnegan From dreams, yes, honest, totally while I was on a holiday i New Zealand , t(ook only 32 days the time I was away, including in the air), still don't quite believe it, it seemed just to be sort-of dictated to me, all I had to do was type it into my i;ad (all I had with me, but it seemed to work okay). Not yet out but (secret - ssh) it'll be called 'Helix Pearl 'and is the 'same' (basically) as the story of my 'Black inked pearl' novel but this time (yes , extraordinary, but that's how it came ) as told - a new take on it - by the garuulous wine-dark sea (her name for herself, don't blame me - actually I like it, a touch of Homer)
Ruth Finnegan Read what you write aloud (at least to your inner ear), LISTEN TO IT
Ruth Finnegan Just keep writing, every day, however bad it seems to be - then suddenly it'll turn out good and be what you want to say (that's certainly what happened to me, specially with my novel, Black inked pearl, which somehow came effortlessly out of my unconscious, but I am sure wouldn't have if I hadn'd spent those the days and years of MAKING myself write for, say, at least anh our every day. WORTH IT! good luck to you! Ruth
Ruth Finnegan 'Crystal Wedding' (am in middle of it) , a wonderful delicate romance, from true life, about a woman's life in China, beautifully translated from the Chinese original, as good, so far, as 'Wild Swans' (yes really!)
Ruth Finnegan Trying to work in a series of academic books -except that the next novel(?) keeps interrupting me. Anyone else suffer from this?
