There aren't many fictional book worlds (that I enjoy) which include people of color...except the ones that I create myself.

Take it seriously. Hone your craft. Educate yourself. Learn proper grammar so that you can do your own nitpicking (AKA editing/proofreading). Do it because you love it, because when the funds are low, and fans move on, the only thing you'll have left is your "why". Let your passion be your "why".

Going back to school--Beauty School, no less--was a challenge. I knew that I was going to have issues with being one of the oldest students in the school, so I decided to keep a journal. It didn't dawn on me to turn the journal into a book until I read my favorite entries years later. This experience could not have been just for me. There were messages in my story that other people could use.
