My advice is to live and to research. An informed story needs to be based in reality, no matter how fantastic. In order to write well, one needs to experience life. In order to write well, one needs to be an avid reader. Devour your life, embrace it. Devour stories, listen to others. Words will inspire your own expression.

My writing process is inspired by research both by traveling to the places I write about and also investigating the natural history of the location.

Stay North is inspired by my love of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It is one of my places of refuge. The story itself germinated in my mind over several years, influenced by Jim Harrison's novellas and also Ernest Hemingway's short stories. It is a Place-Based novella, and I have personally primitive backpacked and camped on Grand Island. It is a gem in Lake Superior near Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
