I am always working on short stories. I write and leave them simmer in the pot then come back to them and rewrite. I work them until I am so sick of them and feel good. Then I will try and submit them to journals.

I've been reading a. lot of short stories for the fall fiction class I am teaching. It has been so inspiring. Mary Robison, Amy Hempel, Carver, DFW, Ron Carlson, Murakami, Tom Paine, Junot Diaz, Zadie Smith, Thom Jones, TC Boyle, Italo Calvino, Denis Johnson, and every ONE STORY that comes in the mail. I also finished the novel LESS. I am fascinated with Bobby Fischer right now and finishing Bobby Fischer Goes to War. And I read Shuggie Bain, a merciless novel that tears you apart the more you read. Terrific writing and worthy of the awards and praise.
