Juliane Weber I haven't experienced writer's block all too often, as I always jump around in my manuscript, working on whatever part comes to mind. If I get stuck on a particular scene, I just move on to another one and get back to the first one later. I'm more likely to have to deal with constant interruptions from my children and a thousand things that need to be done...but that's another story!
Juliane Weber The best thing about being a writer is being able to invent just about anything you like. It's very liberating!
Juliane Weber My advice is to do whatever works for you. Some people write linearly, others jump back and forth in the story as scenes come to them; some plan out the entire story beforehand and use outlines, others develop the story as they write; some prefer creating a draft of the entire manuscript before editing, others edit as they write. There is no correct way of doing it. If it works for you, then that is how you should be writing.
Juliane Weber I am currently working on the sequel to Under the Emerald Sky, which will pick up where the first book in the series ended, in the spring of 1845, shortly before the potato blight arrived in Ireland.
Juliane Weber Everything and anything can be a source of inspiration for me - discovering something interesting in my research, stories people have told me, something I read somewhere, the list goes on... And sometimes ideas comes to me randomly, in random moments, seemingly from nowhere.
Juliane Weber I had thought about writing a historical novel for years, but kept waiting for inspiration to come, as I had no idea when or where the story might take place. That never happened, though, and finally, in frustration, I turned to the internet to search interesting times in history, where I read about the Great Famine in Ireland in the 19th century. That appealed to me, so I thought, why not?
