Ivy Grimes In a dystopian landscape, I live in an inn/restaurant owned by a grumpy Scroogelike character. Everything is dim and sooty like you’d expect. The owner is late arriving to work one day, and everyone is kind of hoping he’s dead. The person who will inherit the place is particularly hopeful, though they also feel there isn’t much to live for given the dystopian circumstances. I decide to start being nicer to the mean owner, and he starts being nicer to me as well. Somehow, the place gets a little cleaner.
Ivy Grimes I dreamed that everyone I knew was hiding something, a shoebox where they kept a tiny pet alligator. I watched my neighbor from the next apartment building offer a tiny wriggling turtle to his tiny alligator as a snack, and I felt sick. But before the turtle could be eaten, the man dropped the shoebox, and both creatures scuttled off. I kept pointing at the alligator. "This isn't safe!" I said. The neighbor insisted the pet was safe. Throughout the dream, I saw many little alligators running about the house like simple lizards. I explained to anyone who would listen that one day the pets would grow up to be big. We'll really be in trouble then.
Ivy Grimes I dreamed I was at some kind of camp for adults where we all took classes, and we were packed into dorm rooms like fish in a tin. The whole school was way too crowded for me to feel comfortable. There was room for us all, but it was a tight fit. Line to get into the common bathroom. Line to get food. Line to watch television. We all got to know each other slowly.
Ivy Grimes I dreamed I was at a rich person's house for a party. There was an explosion. Everyone left the party, and we drove to the store to find medicine. I found myself lost in the nighttime parking lot. The orange streetlights made a lovely pattern on the black pavement.
Ivy Grimes In last night's dream, I crashed my plane in a river, on my way to my last class. I was physically fine, but I was embarrassed.
Ivy Grimes I dreamed I was sitting in my car outside of a mansion. Someone had recently curled my hair; I could still feel the heat. I didn't see myself in a mirror (have I ever in a dream?), but I saw another woman walk by with her own curled hair. Her head looked heavy, like she was about to go onstage. There was a meeting happening inside the mansion to determine the fate of the city. Which city? I think it was in California, though that's actually far from me. I waited, nervously.
