Dear Annmarie, thank you for your comment. Very kind! I am working on a third novel, though it takes a departure from the family-inspired stories. I appreciate your reading The Calligrapher's Daughter and writing. Thank you!

Dorothea and the dreadful Mr Casaubon from MIDDLEMARCH by George Sands. Their arid relationship is so thoroughly drawn, that even though you can't stand him, you understand what the awfulness is all about for poor her.

(view spoiler)[I taught English for one year (02/29/08-02/11/09) at two schools in Sacheon, South Korea. A year ago I wrote and self published a history based fantasy story about two children who awaken an ancient warrior from Gaya. The book is for sale on Amazon-KOREAN ODYSSEY-by Partridge publishing. Any thoughts on how to promote it in S. Korea or even get a review? Best regards!! (hide spoiler)]

Hi there. I'm sorry I have no clue about the Korean market. Translation is an issue of course. So I'd think since your audience is English-speaking, stick to those routes. Good luck.

Hello. Thanks for writing. It took ten years to research The Calligrapher's Daughter. Mostly I read memoirs written about and from the era, and history books. I also interviewed elders, visited Korea, and found primary sources such as maps, photographs, and artwork from the era. The critical issue with incorporating research into fiction is to never let the research take over the story or the character. It must be seamless, embedded in character and setting, not imposed by the writer. Good luck with your work. Cheers.

My second novel is well underway.

I've found that writer's block is usually about fear and lack of confidence. I've found it's best to hit it head on — open a page and write.

Get good grammar and avoid adverbs. Read. Read. Read.
