I have all these story ideas rolling around in my head and when I just can't make them go away, I figure I have to write them away. Watching birds, people, and walking my dog all give me ideas for writing.

Read everything you can get your hands on, and then write, write, write.

I write. Anything. Grocery lists. To-do lists. Emails. I get my brain cells so fired up, they can't stop and then I find myself working on a manuscript or guest blog post I promised to someone. And if writing those things still leaves me idea-empty, I figure it must be a no-writing day, so I catch up on reading or baking (preferably something chocolate and really rich).

Swift Justice is the direct result of the friendly nagging I got from the former Minnesota Audubon At-Home coordinator to write a book about chimney swifts. One thing led to another (as it always does when I craft my mysteries!) and before I knew it, my book included urban exploration, abandoned breweries, Hmong students, and Secret Santas!

I love meeting birders and the travel I do to both research and promote my Birder Murders. With my speaking engagements for my Saved by Gracie book, I've been honored to touch so many hearts with inspiration and laughter. I like writing, too, but the people I connect with enrich my life immeasurably.

I've got the first three chapters finished of book #7 in my Bob White Birder Murder Mystery series. It's set along the Lower Rio Grande River Valley in Texas, and I saw so many fabulous birds when I took a research trip there in early 2014. The title is "Kiskadee of Death" and it's going to involve commercial space travel, illegal immigrants, the annual Citrus Parade, and some great real-life folks I met in the area. Oh, and a meal at Fat Daddy's BBQ, too!
