I hope my two middle grade series will be on several reading lists this summer http://booksandboys.blogspot.com

Most of my ideas come from current news and events. The most recent idea came that way, then I did lots of research to make sure my details would be accurate.

I grew up as a struggling, reluctant reader. Because of this, I've dedicated my writing work to attempt to reach other reluctant readers, especially boys, with books they will love to read. So far I've heard from many of them, their parents, and teachers, telling me it's working.

Having written so many manuscripts without a contract, publisher, or agent in the early days, I'm now spending my time placing those manuscripts with publishers and working on marketing and promotion. I look forward to writing something new possibly this next summer since the final 4 - 6 manuscripts are due to be contracted soon.

Be yourself. Don't try to sound like other authors. Writing and publishing is a process. For some it happens quickly and for others it may take a long, long time. If you feel called to write, don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it. Stick to your dreams, work hard, and never give up.

I used to do a lot of dramatic film and video productions, and hundreds of television commercials. I never thought it was fair for script writers to be able to write down whatever came into their heads and then we had to go out and create those wind storms, car crashes, and other effects. Now, as a writer of middle grade action-adventures and mysteries, I get to write down whatever comes into my head ad it's a great feeling.

Before I start writing, I've already told myself the story and typed those notes. This at least gives me the beginning, middle, and end. It's in the writing process that I discover other characters and plot twists. So far, through 35 manuscripts, I've never experienced writer's block. For me, writing each story feels more like watching a feature film appear right in front of me. In addition, I play mood appropriate music which helps put me in the right frame of mind.
