Evan L. Grove Complete separation from writing for a while. Sometimes hours, days, weeks even.

Someone once described it to me as a sort of breathe in, breathe out phenomenon. When we write, we're breathing out. And eventually, we get a bit winded. Its then you have to take a step back and take a deep breath.

Read a book, watch a TV series, play a 100-hour RPG, whatever manages to pull your mind out of the gutter and back into a functioning state. In my experience, this has always worked for me and has often led to a feverish return to my work upon completing whatever content I was enjoying.
Evan L. Grove Really getting to know my characters.
Evan L. Grove Just write your book, get it done. Finishing is the hardest part.

That said, its likely your first, second, or maybe even your third attempt will be rubbish. That doesn't mean you're a bad writer, in fact it likely means you're on the road toward being a far better one.

So just keep doing it until you've crafted something you can really be proud of. The most important part is following through and reaching that finish line. Only then will you have the clarity to know if its worth sending to an editor or not.
Evan L. Grove The follow up/ending to The Awakener duology as well as a new series that will release after that.
Evan L. Grove The desire just sort of 'takes over' due to the media I consume and/or my mind working overtime due to boredom. I wouldn't call it inspiration, more like impetus/compulsion.
Evan L. Grove The original concept for 'To the North' popped up in my head sometime in 2016 due to increased boredom at work.
