DEATH AT THE ZENDO pretty much came in a rush. I knew I wanted to tie together my experience in Zen with an intriguing story, then had one of those magic moments when the first line came to me: "I was feeling a bit ragged after Katie, my wife left." I think the first draft took a couple years, working three or four hours a day, then a second draft a year or so later filled in the missing parts. It took even longer figuring out how to get it into print.
