Because my books are all connected, i.e. the same universe with a lot of the same characters, new ideas always start with the last book. I ask myself "what if?" and the story starts to unfold. I try to give my readers the level of action and emotion that they've come to expect from my novels.

I center myself, shut down emails, social media, and anything else that can distract me. Then I focus on the world I'm entering. The rest is magic!

Write. Every day if you can. Even if it's only 15 minutes. And never give up on yourself. Remember that your voice is unique, and you have to power to tell a story like no other person can.

The best thing about being a writer is creating a world that never existed previously. I love to write new characters and put them in uncomfortable situations. I do write thriller, so a lot of the situations are downright dangerous, but I have to put myself in their world and be with them in order for the story and world to be believable and compelling.

When I get writer's block, I force myself to write 500 words in my WIP, even if I know I won't use most of it. Usually, by the next day, I'll find a kernel of an idea to keep.
