The island is on the Mississippi River in Minnesota, just down river from the Twin Cities. I set aside two hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays to be devoted to reading journal entries and try to add the details surrounding the scene. It was super fun to watch home movie clips and start with the dialogue and go from there. Setting aside the time was key or it would never happen.

The book is a memoir with stories starting at age 8 to age 14 the set the scene for how a kid buys an island. I get asked this question all the time at events and was encouraged to share snippets from our family journal. Hope you enjoy reading it!
