In my blog, Entanglement, I have often written about my lifelong struggle with depression and anxiety. Recently, within the last four years, or so, I have had episodes resembling bipolar II disorder. I have chalked it up to actively being menopausal, because women predisposed to depression, can suffer major melancholia depression due to fluctuating hormones. I'm not on HRT, so I take the occasional Xanax and keep trudging forward. I have accepted that I will never be free from depression, she is a surly bitch that will shadow me until the day I die. All that to introduce my new work in progress, Days of Rain.

My next book is titled, Days of Rain. Rain is a woman who has struggled with depression and thoughts of suicide her entire life. She decides to write her story in a journal, in a desperate attempt to unravel her past, and maybe, save her own life. Will she succeed, or will purging her memory banks be the catalyst that finally breaks her?

Brat: An 80's Story, by Andrew McCarthy and The Final Girl Support Group, by Grady Hendrix are two that I'm really anxious to read. There's some Simone St. James, Colleen Hoover and Victoria Schwab books in the que as well!

I think we all dabble a little with writing, if not, we should be. It’s good exercise for the grey matter. Journaling became my obsession over many years, until a dying marriage lead me to blogging. It was a way for me to purge, in real time, all the emotions I was experiencing day-to-day and to get feedback and advice from others simultaneously. If you are writing, keep it up. If you’re not blogging, you should be, and never give up your dream to be published if that is your goal. It took me almost ten years. Anything is possible if you believe in yourself.

Sitting in front of an empty screen watching a blinking cursor for hours, or feeling like there is not enough time in the day to get something on paper is my biggest frustration and challenge as a writer. I feel like writer’s block is a cliché, but it happens and it eventually passes.

When you are in the zone and you read back something you’ve written and think…wow, where did that come from!
