Having an income that doesn't come from writing. Setting out to be a serious writer is a soul-crushing experience. It's also a kind of luxury. You have to have the kind of excess time that allows you to pursue it. So, I guess if you're a writer, then you're already living the good life (compared to most people in the world).

Go out and experience life. Try things that scare you, without putting your life in danger. You'll fail, over and over again. Be ok with it. Keep a journal of brainstorming, stream-of-consciousness, unfiltered ideas...no matter how dark.

Marketing. I still maintain a few clients. While I've been in online marketing for years, I've never tried to market a book. I'm learning all the industry platforms as I go, which is a job in itself. I also blog as way to promote the book. I'm new to all of this.

I read—a lot. Psychology. Sociology. Philosophy. Marrying concepts based on my readings from these three subjects was inspiring and gave me the ability to adjust the narrative to give it (what I think is) a bit of timeless quality.

Originally, I got the idea for a book about Media Literacy around 2008. But, I thought it was too daunting for me to write. Around 2012, I put together a rough outline but realized it would be way too dry to read, too academic. Sometime in 2017, I revised my outline for a fictional narrative that would incorporate many of the academic concepts related to Media Literacy. I found the concept to be very original, given the changes in media since the late 80s. I got serious in 2018.
