Tom Roberts I read a lot of history, and with my science background, the history of science, invention, and technology has always fascinated me. I would often wonder what our world would be like if certain advancements had happened 1000 or 2000 years earlier. Would humanity be out among the stars now? So, I decided to write a this-could-have-actually-happened historical adventure in which some geniuses came together and made a discovery millennia ahead of when it actually happened historically.
Tom Roberts Guilt. I tell myself that I made a goal to write a book this year and when I'm slacking off, I pull myself back up and get going. There are days when other things get in the way. Just plan for it and adjust. Seeing the appearance of new works of other writers whom I follow also inspires me.
Tom Roberts Since I do extensive outlining, I don't get writer's block very often. When I do, I just step away for a while---an hour, a day, or a week depending on the severity of the block.
Tom Roberts I think it's the sense of accomplishment you get when you finally finish the first draft or the final draft. There's also that exciting moment when you first hold your book in your hands (or see it listed on the Kindle store). You realize you've done something---through hard work and persistence---that most people just dream about.
Tom Roberts Keep learning ... about your craft, the business side of writing, and how to be patient. Writing and publishing is a drawn out process. Never lose faith in yourself no matter how many rejections you get.
Tom Roberts I'm currently working on an outline for the second book in my Lost Artifacts series. That process will take several more weeks. From the outline, I'll have a list of scenes and an approximate word count. Of course, this is subject to change especially in the early stages of the work.
