Heather Salter-Purves A great way of looking at a plot I have about applying real-life events that occurred to me. I play the What If game. Play the premise of what happens if ... A fun one at the moment I have playing in my head is what happens if the terrible twos of a toddler was a changeling being delivered to a family.
But often, there are sometimes that real life is Stranger than Fiction. So I find that some of my earlier works and Rippled reflections were me working through some underlying issues. As I find writing a form of therapy as taking it into a Fantastical world is quite cathartic.
Heather Salter-Purves The idea that led to Rippled Reflections was that I kept getting a rhyme repeating in my head, all about someone having to seek something taken and hidden in the water. And then, given I have an affinity for more dark fantasy. I wanted to take a fun little twist on a TV show that I enjoyed growing up being Teen Wolf. So I set it in my little fictional town where things happen, and the adults seem oblivious.
Heather Salter-Purves Some of the greatest pieces of advice I was given when I wanted to become an author. Was from my parents; which was to write and have fun. Something that constantly comes out and I hear,. I think it's from a masterclass with Dan Brown: write as if no one's watching cos no one is. also remember to have fun and the moment you put pen to paper and your ideas out into a hard copy. you are a writer like no one else tell you otherwise.
Heather Salter-Purves I am currently working on outlining a few different novels in a dark fantasy series however for NaNoWriMo in 2020 I'll be working on the second book in my Devil's Bay series that follows on from Rippled Reflections. I'm also writing a range of short stories to add to anthologies that should be coming out between 2021 and 2023
Heather Salter-Purves Some of the best things about being a writer can connect with other people through something as universal as a story. Standing in a store or on a public train are you see someone the book in the hand. It gives you an easy way to start up a conversation. On a more personal note being a writer allows me to work from home which in turn means I can watch my little girl grow up and we can explore story world's together, and I might be able to write stories for her to enjoy in the world.
Heather Salter-Purves one of two ways.
first is mine productivity and creativity going to turn me off and get me further stuck.
the second part is is this something that I can do currently that will take my mind off my writing issues so that they could percolate in my subconscious while I the house I go for a walk with my daughter or my dog.

the wayward children series by Seanan McGuire for fun short portal fantasies
