The big mystery in my life is the path son Jim will take once his ex-girlfriend gets out of treatment in January. He's been sober, working and seeing healthy friends since they broke up two years ago. How our children fare is how we fare. I believe he will hold strong, but life holds no guarantees.

I assign my brain a writing prompt just before I go to bed. Right away when I wake up I pour out my thoughts onto paper and keep thinking about the topic that day, especially when I am walking or doing things alone. After another night to dream about the story, I am usually unblocked.
