I wanted to write about my experience with my dad going through cancer and dying since he passed away in 2017. Initially, I wanted to write a memoir but I was a little hazy on a lot of the details and I didn't know how to write about or portray other family members accurately. I also really wanted to write a children's book, so I decided to write a fictionalised story from the perspective of a young girl. All the events are fictional but all of the feelings and emotions described are very real. I wish I had read a story like this when I was young - so I wrote a story that I wanted read.
