S.L. Barrie Midnight Sun and A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
S.L. Barrie I was sat alone, in a quiet room with pad and pen in hand, ready to write the greatest novel of all time. The door opened and in ran the most disturbing creature, my one year old child.
S.L. Barrie Middle Earth without question and I would ride with the Rohirrim and visit Mirkwood
S.L. Barrie I don't 🤣 The dreaded block. Everyone faces it at so e time or other and always more than once or twice, it can be frequent small blocks or once massive block. The best thing I could advise to do is just treat it like you would a very annoying person. Treat it like it isn't there and maybe it'll go away. Just occupy your time and mind with something completely different and perhaps inspiration will strike. Even if you take a long time away from it, there's no shame in that, everyone needs a break, including people who live inside their minds and the minds of others for a profession, it can be mentally draining.
S.L. Barrie Letting go. I don't know about other writers but for me personally, these characters live inside my head for a very long time, only once their stories are written down can i say goodbye to them. They really are like family, desperate for me to tell their stories. So even when I am done telli g them, they might still come to visit from time to time
S.L. Barrie Don't give up. It's a tough market, explore your options, see what best suits you, don't be afraid to take a risk, but also don't feel ashamed for playing it safe. Don't compromise, if you have a creative vision, if your work is a passion project don't let anyone tell you it's not good enough, keep trying there's always another audience with another perspective
S.L. Barrie I am currently working on several projects. I am finalising the second indtallment of my fantasy, supernatural series Sandman Chronicles: Dreams and Dust. I will be starting writing the third installment soon. I am also juggling writing two very different books, a physchological thriller and a dystopian novel too. All whilst juggling two beautiful yet boistrous daughters
S.L. Barrie Inspiration for me comes from many places my dreams, from history, from people. Ig any idea pops into ny head from wherever, I make a note of it, there could be something to it. You can find inspiration anywhere
S.L. Barrie It came to me in a dream 9 years ago. The dream was so vivid and real, when I woke up I knew I had to write everything down, I knew almost every detail of the people in my dream, what they looked like, their, history, personality and what they do. I thought it would make a great story so I started fleshing it out more
