J.M. Torgo For me, writer's block isn't about ideas; it's about feeling enthusiasm for writing. If I'm blocked, it's time to take a break. I'll run around the yard for awhile, do a few dozen toe touches. Screaming works, but that depends on how tolerant your neighbors are. Pretty soon, I'm back at the keyboard.
J.M. Torgo I am presently writing a collection of short stories that explore the stock background characters of horror and sci-fi. I'm interested in what happens if you shove those set pieces into the foreground but still work within the worlds and assumptions of those genres. So there's some aliens and monsters and stuff.
J.M. Torgo How long can the sentences be? This format isn't really conducive to creeping tension or uncanny terror, which--to be frank--is making me really anxious.
J.M. Torgo Be merciless with your own writing. Treat it as what it is: an imperfect creation that craves bitter discipline. It must be subjected to the severest abuse, so that it emerges strong and iron-willed. And when your [insert genre] crawls out of this crucible, it shall lay waste to all before it. Only your firm hand, equipped with the figurative stick of the delete key, shall forge such a leviathan.

To be clear, this is about your book, not your Little League-r.
