I'm so incredibly happy that you connected with Rey! That means the absolute world. Characters for me are so important to my story, and I really do see them as real people. I see the audience that I write for and want to do right by them with these characters, whether it's Rey or Rafie or Xope or anyone else. I always consider the fact that, for some reader out there, this could be the first time they come across a character like themself, and I want to provide that sense of humanity, of this being a really thought out young person in return. I think a really cool part about writing contemporary stories is that we get to perceive these truths, right? That's what I love so much about the stories I write in particular, is that there are these incredibly touching, moving, and even heartbreaking truths—whether it's immigration with Ander & Santi Were Here or coming out with Fifteen Hundred Miles from the Sun—that have meaning to me and that I get to create a story around and include things like friendship and falling in love alongside them.

as enticing as it is and as much as I would love to stay in their world forever, I don't expect to write any more of Jules and Mat's life. mainly because, in my own mind and heart, they're living their happily ever after, and, I think, however that takes shape is something I more than welcome readers to envision and daydream with me about. (however, maybe we'll get to see one of Jules' friends having his main character moment in the not too distant future.)
