Deborah Stevenson I don't worry about writer's block. If I'm blocked, I just take a break. I know myself well enough to know that when an idea is "ready", inspiration hits and I must write. And when I'm not feeling it, it's best to go with that and step away.
Deborah Stevenson I adore the creative collaboration of picture books...that back and forth between author and illustrator that brings a vision to life is so rewarding and addicitive.
Deborah Stevenson WRITE! Just keep at it, keep learning, and take one step at a time in the right direction.
Deborah Stevenson I'm working on several new stories--an adventurous mouse who penchant for napping through anything gets him in trouble, a wild bedtime story about an all-lemur orchestra conducted by an Aye Aye, a sweet story about little opossum who doesn't like opossum-y things, and a lovely friendship tale with a pinch of magic, about a kind, lonely boy in a new town who makes a most unusual friend (this is one of my all-time-favorite stories and just adore the main character). Coming soon is a sentimental story called The Green Woolen Fedora--and adventure about two best friends and a treasured memento, with absolutely gorgeous illustrations by Stella Mongodi.
Deborah Stevenson I'm inspired by many things...current events, a dream, real life characters that amuse or inspire me...sometimes and random illustration will inspire a story.
Deborah Stevenson I actually dreamed about my entire Chicken and Egg book series...4 books in one night. I woke up at 1 AM with them in my head, went downstairs and started writing for 15 hours. Once I had a first draft of all four books from my dream, I went back to sleep.
