After Jack had been bitten one late night, he never expected to wake up in total darkness, feeling trapped and unable to move. But when he clicked his lighter, he realized he was sleeping in a coffin.

I read a lot of indie and small publishing house books. That is because I am a Facebook member of many of their groups and I enjoy reading anthologies and novels by some of the people I know. But a great, well-known author's novel is always on the agenda someplace in my reading list!

I don't think about it. There are days I don't want to write and days I sit for several hours working on a single story or my novel. Since I want to enjoy writing and not make it drudgery, I accept there will be times when nothing pops into my head to write about. And there are days I can't sit and write when personal matters require my attention. I downloaded an app that I can make notes on if a subject does come to mind. Don't use the term, "Writer's Block" as an excuse. Just accept some days aren't made for the written word for you.

Doing what I love. I've written since I was a kid, getting some supportive feedback as a teenager from an English teacher when we studied creative writing. But that was my sole support and so I waited until in my 50's to take the craft seriously as something I could actually do successfully and be publish. It's the job I wish I'd been doing my entire life!

Write. Find the time, join some online writing groups where you can get support and learn the craft. Read a lot of books in the genre you want to write, as well as others. Edit, edit, edit, and then find the cash to pay for a professional editor. At least in the beginning and definitely, if you are writing a novel. Nothing will turn off a reader than errors that cause confusion or words misspelled. And stay away from Vanity Presses!!!!

I have a short story I'm doing final edits on and will then look for a fitting home for it. A magazine, anthology, etc where it will fit into what the publisher is seeking.
I've also been working on a novel for years. I got stuck at around 57,000 words and have just been editing what I have. But there is a lot more to the story.

I usually sit down with a story in mind. It may be just a character or a thought. I start writing and see where that character or subject takes me.

Many of my ideas come from something simple in my everyday life. It can be a phrase I overhear, a line from a book or commercial, a title of another book, an event I witness. In my latest story, available soon, I was thinking about the difficulty of a friend who lost her spouse and her struggles to keep things up around the house that he used to do. The story is titled, "While Twilight" and will be published in an upcoming anthology by Dr. Maria Jesú Estrada of Penned In the City. The anthology is, "Unity" and all proceeds go to Doctors Without Borders.
