James Ellson After writing a memoir, an agent suggested I write a thriller. So, I literally wrote down on the back of an envelope the things I know about:

The Police. I used to be police officer, finishing as a Detective Inspector at Moss Side, Manchester.

Nepal. I've always been a keen climber and mountaineer, and have made numerous trips to Nepal. I've trekked to Annapurna Base Camp, to Goasaikunda, and to Everest Base Camp. And in 2004 I climbed 6,812 metre Ama Dablam in the Everest foothills. As a result I have a great passion for Nepal, the incredible mountain scenery and its friendly people.

Beekeeper. As well as being a writer, I am a smallholder. Self-sufficient in fruit and vegetables, and keep chickens and bees.

So, after drawing a few arrows and scribbling a few notes on the envelope I started writing . . .

The Trail . . . A missing person enquiry leads Manchester DCI Rick Castle (a beekeeper) to Nepal.
