Do anything but sit in front of my computer. Ideas flow in my garden or when I'm blow-drying my hair. As soon as I stop thinking about writing, I come up with things to write about.

I think I'd have to follow Alice down the rabbit hole and meet the Cheshire Cat in person and have a serious chat with the Red Queen.

Read, and then read some more. Read many genres. Read books on writing and editing, and then just get those words down on paper or computer screen. Begin to submit short pieces and always, if offered, pay for the critiques. Critiques are invaluable.

I was doing a lot of ballroom dancing when I started the first draft, back in 2011. It's a colorful world, full of amazing, high energy, emotional people. Hence the ballroom studio setting. It was natural to play the game of "what if" and create situations. I could also put words in people's mouths to see where my characters would run with them. There were a few issues I could insert that, really, could have been used in any environment, not just a ballroom dance studio. People are people wherever you go and, no matter their profession, have the same issues and emotions to deal with.

Thinking about digging out my first draft novel to see what gems I might unearth. It was about a suicide and a smart-ass advice columnist, who retreats emotionally when she learns about the suicide, and believes her words might been what pushed this young man to take his own life. Would have to use only the bare bones because I've honed my craft quite a bit since then (12 years ago). Not sure. Might continue on with characters in my current novel and work a murder into the mix.
