I don't really know. I am always thinking of storylines from everyday things, especially my experience in high technology companies. I often find that I have to write down ideas quickly or I lose the thread.

I would recommend reading Steven King's On Writing. It is a very practical primer on writing. Also be prepared to dedicate considerable time to the endeavor, it takes a lot of work and dedication. Also be prepared to do a lot of marketing and sales.
