C.K. Beggan Howards End and Little Women (I read this so long ago, when I was too young to understand, let alone appreciate it). Starting two years ago, I've vowed to read a classic every summer, and the recent adaptations on PBS made me select those two. If I can get in a re-read of Wuthering Heights, that'd be great, too. It's my favorite, and it's been way too long!
C.K. Beggan I think I'd go to the world of Trudi Canavan's Millenium's Rule, if it meant I could world-hop with the Travellers.
C.K. Beggan Some of my stories begin with dreams, actually. I'm often a vivid dreamer, and sometimes there's a story line I'd like to put some sense to and continue, or there's a really interesting idea that becomes something much more once I'm awake.
C.K. Beggan Getting to use my imagination, of course! That's something I think is good for everyone's health and sanity (or creating anything, really). When you make something, whether it's a story or a scarf or a painting, there's this sense of "Ah, everything's right and good with me," whenever it's going well and you've expressed yourself in some way.
C.K. Beggan I think of it as problem solving instead. If I don't know what to do next, it's because I have unanswered questions or problems to work out. If I still can't figure it out, I usually work on other stories in the meantime. Sometimes the answer comes that way!
C.K. Beggan Be patient, especially with your editing process, try new genres and styles (because the one that clicks might surprise you), and remember that if something doesn't feel right to you in your story, it's probably true!
C.K. Beggan A fantasy short story collection
C.K. Beggan It started as a spin-off of a different manuscript that must be more than 10 years old now, a sort of origin story for the problems in that protagonist's life and world. I sat on it forever before I realized I could self-publish it as a novella, rather than try to make it a full-length novel. It was meant to be short! The original world became worlds on a whim, and it all just fell into place.
