Cynthia C. Huijgens This is a great question. I like to think my life doesn’t contain any mysteries, but upon closer inspection, it certainly does. Just the other day I went to a water aerobics class at a pool I frequented with my mother who passed away two years ago. I got into the water and swam out to our preferred spot and when the music started, it was her personal playlist. Not just one song, but the entire hour-long set. I could feel my mother there, exercising next to me, giving me a nod when she was ready to amp things up a notch. That’s a mystery, right? Yah. That’s a mystery.
Cynthia C. Huijgens Be clear with yourself about what your goals are, for instance, do you just want to write for yourself or share your writing with others? Is it a career as a writer you seek, a big publishing contract, or maybe a film adaptation of your work like Lord of the Rings? Whatever your goals are, keep writing to them.
Cynthia C. Huijgens When I am writing, I become ageless and lose track of time. I become a foreigner in my homeland, another person with challenges and difficulties and strengths different from my own. Being a writer opens new possibilities of looking at the world and that is maybe the best thing.
Cynthia C. Huijgens Great question! Last Christmas my youngest son gifted me Writer's Block by Jason Rekulak. It contains 786 ideas to jump start your imagination, so if I can't find something there to help me bust through my writer's block, I turn to tarot cards where I always get great ideas :D
Cynthia C. Huijgens I’m easily inspired, but real events, injustices, art, nature, dogs...people. It doesn't take much to get me to my notebook.
Cynthia C. Huijgens I recently founded a small indie children’s press, Idle Time Press, and next year Idle Time Press is publishing three books: one upper middle grade novel and two picture books. That means I’m busy working contracts, angling marketing and trying to produce a high quality product in a value added way. I’m also writing, so stay tuned for more!
Cynthia C. Huijgens The Circle 19: a Brussels Anthology is the third such collection of poetry and short stories by the Brussels Writer’s Circle. My writing does not appear in this edition aside from a brief introduction, but I was one of the authors featured in last year’s anthology, The Circle, which makes me think, I should add that book to my author profile!
